JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut Division of Athletics is seeking applications for the full-time position of Director of Photography.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities will include serving as the department’s primary staff photographer and working with all 19 Division-I sport programs, satisfying all external and internal needs. This includes possessing strong proficiency in the area of photography and working closely with the marketing and creative departments with the objective of enhancing UConn athletic teams’ presence on their respective social media platforms. Demonstrated experience shooting game action shots and studio photography is required. This position will be responsible for creating and maintaining photo galleries and archives. Responsibilities also include organizing and scheduling coverage for contests and events, leading a team of student interns, as well as maintaining positive working relationships with third-party photographers for additional event coverage.
The successful candidate should be highly organized, creative, detail-oriented, collaborative, a good communicator, and possess the ability to handle numerous assignments in a timely manner with the flexibility to adjust to unscheduled developments involving immediate attention. Must be willing to be a collaborative member within the creative department, be an active participant in creative brainstorming meetings, and help elevate the creative department as a whole. The successful candidate should be open to working irregular hours, as many of the duties of this position will include coverage of athletics contests, events, recruiting shoots and team practices. The Department will ensure that a flexible schedule is prioritized for the successful candidate in an effort to offset the potential for irregular working hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, sports management, photography or a related field.
- Two years of post-graduate specialized experience in athletics photography, with a proven ability to capture dynamic, high-impact imagery that highlights the intensity, emotion, and precision of competitive sports.
- Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, with an emphasis on Photoshop and InDesign for professional-level photo editing and layout design.
- Demonstrated experience shooting photos in a studio setting.
- Communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven experience multitasking effectively, prioritizing assignments, and meeting deadlines.
- Experience managing a digital asset management platform, including accurate labeling and systematic archiving of images.
- Experience utilizing social media management software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of full-time experience working in a collegiate athletics department or professional sports organization.
- Experience leading and developing a team of student interns.
- Experience with content ideation and social media management.
- Experience using a content management system tool such as that provided by Sidearm Sports.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, permanent position. The incumbent must have the ability to work flexible and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays. Relocation assistance is not available.
