JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Director supports all functions of the Graduate and International Programs Office at UConn School of Law, with a focus on recruiting and supporting students across the Law School’s non-JD programs, including six LL.M. programs, the S.J.D. program, the Visiting Scholar program, and international exchange programs. This position works under the general supervision of the Director of Graduate Programs and Admissions.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for reviewing applications to the LL.M. program, interviewing candidates, and supporting strategic recruitment efforts through virtual sessions, consortia, and occasional travel. The Assistant Director will contribute to marketing initiatives, monitor trends in international legal education, and propose new strategies to enhance enrollment. In addition, the role includes coordinating student programming—such as orientation, monthly meetings, and special events—and collaborating with the Office of Student Affairs to address student concerns. The Assistant Director will oversee the inbound and outbound international exchange programs, and stay abreast of JD exchange policies, present information sessions each semester, and review JD exchange applications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participle in Graduate admissions: read, review, evaluate, and process LLM applications; Interview LLM applicants.
- Engage in recruitment, admissions, and enrollment-related activities in both domestic and international markets (may include recruitment travel).
- Collaborate with marketing and communication teams to provide a strategic direction for yearly marketing campaigns.
- Conduct individual advising sessions or group workshops for potential applicants.
- Assist in the development and cultivation of partner schools and institutional relationships, liaising with partner institutions and the Office of Global Affairs to ensure that partnership agreements are maintained.
- Provide comprehensive support services to graduate and international students and advise students on program requirements, course selection, etc.
- Coordinate the international exchange program (inbound and outbound); provide advising and guidance to students participating in exchange programs.
- Serve as main contact person for alumni (LLMs, exchange and visiting scholar) through email, Facebook, and similar social media tools.
- Supervise student workers.
- Provide comprehensive support services to graduate and international students and respond to various student concerns as they arise.
- Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three (3) years of related admissions and student support experience.
- Experience working with international students.
- Demonstrated ability to work with multiple constituencies including professors, staff, and students of various ages and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated writing and communication skills.
- Experience with Peoplesoft, Slate, or other comparable systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree.
- Dual language speaker.
- Five (5) years of experience working in higher education.
- Advanced knowledge of Slate and experience with Law School Admissions Council (LSAC/Unite).
- Experience drafting and negotiating institutional partnerships.
- Knowledge of the American legal system.
