JOB SUMMARY

As part of UConn’s ongoing commitment to create and maintain a campus environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment, including all forms of sexual harassment and violence, the position of Title IX Compliance and Education Specialist plays a significant role in the University’s coordinated response, prevention and education initiatives pursuant to Title IX and related statutes and regulations. 

Reporting to the Title IX Coordinator, the Title IX Compliance and Education Specialist’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Managing records of reports to OIE of sex discrimination, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and intimate partner violence involving students.
  • Assisting in OIE’s activities related to evaluation and assessment of the University’s Title IX program.
  • Creating and delivering educational programs and activities related to Title IX.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain case files in OIE’s case management system for each matter reported to OIE involving sexual misconduct.
  • Track cases of sexual misconduct reported to the University and report systemic problems related to complaints to the Title IX Coordinator.
  • Prepare and maintain statistical, demographic, and subject matter data related to Title IX complaints and trends, including quarterly reports, the drafting of annual state legislative reports and preparing such figures and data for widespread publication and distribution.
  • Assist in OIE’s efforts to evaluate and assess the University’s Title IX program and to gather information about University community members’ awareness of and experiences relating to sexual harassment and related interpersonal violence: including assisting with planning and administering surveys and other tools to gather information, and processing and analyzing responses.
  • Create and deliver OIE’s Title IX-related educational trainings, initiatives and programs, including developing and delivering customized educational programs for student groups and other members of the University community.
  • Prepare, proofread, and distribute written Title IX materials, including the University’s brochures on sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking and intimate partner violence.
  • Assist in developing content and perform ongoing maintenance to UConn’s sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking resource website, including information relevant to UConn Health.
  • Participate in meetings for University committees and other meetings as assigned by the Title IX Coordinator.
  • Review updated federal guidance and state legislation to continually identify best practices with regard to Title IX and sexual misconduct.
  • Serve as a resource to all OIE staff on matters related to the administration of the Title IX program.
  • Performs other special projects and duties as assigned by OIE’s Associate Vice President and OIE leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience designing or facilitating training or educational programs.
  • Proficiency with office administration and coordination of general office business functions, including demonstrated strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Professional writing skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field.
  • Working knowledge of Title IX regulatory requirements in a higher education setting.
  • Professional verbal communication skills.
  • Professional experience working with issues of gender-based discrimination, harassment, or interpersonal violence.
  • Experience preparing written informational materials relating to Title IX.
  • Experience assisting with the creation of annual published reports, including compilation of large amounts of data and creation of executive summaries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: Demonstrated ability to function well in both leader and teammate roles and interact with colleagues and superiors in a positive and constructive manner when faced with significant deadlines or workloads and challenging subject matter.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and regularly exercise excellent judgment regarding interpersonal interactions, administrative detail, and confidential procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals who have been negatively impacted or harmed by the behavior of others and/or individuals who have experienced trauma.
  • Experience in managing website content.
  • Prior completion of sexual violence prevention and/or response training with a nationally recognized organization.
  • Experience working in a Title IX program at an institution of higher education.
