INTRODUCTION

The University of Connecticut at Storrs, Student Health and Wellness is seeking a permanent, 10-month Secretary I for the Business Services Team as part of a multidisciplinary, multicultural university campus-based medical team.  Under the direction of the Office Manager responsibilities include:

  1. Checks patients in for their appointments using an electronic health record.
  2. Captures insurance and patient demographic information and inputs to electronic health record to ensure completeness of data.
  3. Answers telephone, transfers call and takes messages; sends correspondence.
  4. Receives and directs students and visitors; handles routine requests for information.
  5. Schedules appointments as needed.
  6. Assists Medical Records staff with sorting, filing and compiling documents as needed.
  7. Maintains files and logs as needed.
  8. Completes initial mental health screenings.
  9. Assists with special projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Two years of experience above the routine clerk level in office support or secretarial work.
  2. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  3. Demonstrated experience with customer relations.
  4. Excellent organizational skills with attention to details.
  5. Demonstrated competence in working in an interdisciplinary and multicultural team environment.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  7. Considerable knowledge of office systems and procedures to include a familiarity with the maintenance of patient medical records.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Previous experience working in a health care system.
  2. Previous experience working as a receptionist in a medical office.
  3. Experience working effectively in a multicultural environment.
  4. Demonstrated familiarity with electronic medical record and billing software.

This is a permanent, 10-month positions with an annual work schedule of August 15th through June 15th.  The work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday: 9:30am to 6:00pm with Saturday hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm with a half-hour lunch.  This schedule is applicable while classes are in session and weekend differential pay will apply as appropriate.  During the academic breaks, the hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm with a half-hour lunch. 

This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff.  The individual in this role must be willing to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that effect campus operations.  Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends, holidays).
