JOB SUMMARY
This position serves as the primary data custodian for all student records at the University of Connecticut. This involves administering the Student Administration system, troubleshooting complex and wide-ranging issues, providing authoritative interpretation of student record data, and approving access to student record data. This position is also tasked with new application implementation and review of Registrar’s office business practices in order to determine and enact changes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with University, state of Connecticut, and Federal regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of University-wide software systems. Coordinates with ITS for the implementation of all new technical applications that will contain student record data.
- Serves as the data custodian for student record data for the University. This involves ensuring the accuracy of student records, approving all access to student record data, and serving as an authority on interpreting student records data.
- Manages the implementation of new initiatives that require coordinating staff members from multiple University offices. Administers and oversees complex projects and the associated relationships.
- Coordinates with all sections of the Registrar’s office to review the effectiveness and efficiency of all Registrar’s office practices, policies and procedures.
- Serves as a higher-level troubleshooter to resolve particularly impactful or complex systems or business problems.
- Compiles student record data and verifies for accuracy and completeness. Generates statistics and prepares and/or presents reports.
- Develops and conducts training, programs and workshops for faculty, staff and administration covering a wide range of technical applications and processes. Participates in professional and technical conferences and workshops.
- Represents the office and the Registrar function on various campus and university-wide committees, task forces, meetings and serves as an active participant in shared governance.
- Oversees and enforces compliance with University policy and bylaws, state and federal regulatory guidance and legislation and regional accreditation requirements.
- Interprets and explains Office of the Registrar policies and procedures, responds to inquiries for information, and makes referrals to other University offices as necessary.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of existing policies and procedures and recommends changes.
- Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Six years of related experience.
- One year of experience overseeing large projects OR serving as a senior team member regularly performing the most advanced tasks in the business area.
- Professional experience in a higher education position.
- Experience communicating complex technical and procedural information clearly and accurately in both written and verbal form with diverse audiences, including technical staff, administrative offices, and academic stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Significant years of working experience with PeopleSoft (Oracle) student systems.
- Professional experience in a higher education Registrar’s office.
- Extensive knowledge of student record data.
