JOB SUMMARY

UConn Human Resources is seeking applications for a Labor Relations Specialist to join the Labor Relations Team. The LR Specialist will play a pivotal role in interpreting and implementing collective bargaining agreements, managing grievances, and supporting union relations within the university. The successful candidate will collaborate with union representatives, colleagues in Human Resources and other administrative offices, and management to ensure compliance, resolve personnel matters, and promote a collaborative work environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include interpreting, implementing, and enforcing collective bargaining agreements; investigation and resolving grievances and other labor relations matters; supporting dispute resolution processes including mediation, arbitration and administrative hearings; and assisting in labor negotiations by drafting proposals and analyzing trends and conducting research.  Additionally, the successful candidate may be expected to conduct training sessions on labor laws and collective bargaining agreements, recommend policy and process improvements, and/or prepare reports and documentation on labor investigations and other activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in personnel administration and/or labor relations, with exposure to unionized environments.
  • Knowledge of labor laws applicable to higher education institutions (e.g. Title IX, FLSA, FMLA, ADA)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with union representatives, faculty, staff, and leadership
  • Experience handling administrative hearings, grievances, and/or arbitrations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or J.D.
  • Experience in personnel administration and/or labor relations in higher education, government agency, or similar organization

This is a full-time, twelve-month position.
