INTRODUCTION
The College of Engineering (CoE) at the University of Connecticut (UConn) seeks qualified candidates for a non-tenure track position of Assistant Professor in Residence or Associate Professor in Residence appointed by the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SoCEE). The responsibilities of applicants for this position are as described below.
The SoCEE has strengths across the entire spectrum of civil and environmental engineering research with access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and extensive funding from federal agencies and industry. It is home to 23 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 4 professors in residence and 10 research professors. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs in both Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE); it also offers a minor degree in Environmental Engineering and a minor degree in Construction Engineering and Management (CEM). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be expected to teach CEE courses at the undergraduate level; serve as a mentor for senior design teams; contribute to and expand the offerings associated with the minor in CEM; advise SoCEE undergraduate students; and participate in various outreach programs. The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to teamwork, effective instruction at the undergraduate level, innovation in teaching and mentorship, and work closely with SoCEE faculty to enhance classroom activities and instruction in core CEE and CEM courses. The successful candidate will also be expected to promote participation among members of under-represented groups and employ pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of all requirements for a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related field by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
- Ability to teach basic and advanced undergraduate CEE courses (especially CEM courses).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Engineering license or the ability and intent to obtain one.
- Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional), CCM (Certified Construction Manager), or LEED accreditation.
- Undergraduate degree in civil or construction engineering.
- An established record of excellence in teaching.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
- Experience integrating technology into classroom instruction.
- The ability to effectively communicate and a record of outreach and public engagement.
- Professional experience in CEM or related fields.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor in Residence appointed by the School of CEE. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the UConn main campus in Storrs, CT. The starting date is August 23, 2025. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
