JOB SUMMARY

The Pratt & Whitney Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering (PW-IASE) at the University of Connecticut is a University Research Center with the mission to advance the state of the art in Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering at UConn and the nation. It offers research, academic, and outreach programs for undergraduate and graduate students at UConn and working professionals worldwide.

The PW-IASE at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a Program Manager (Research Assistant 3) position. The successful candidate will primarily coordinate the Institute’s teaching and training program as the Program Manager of the PW-IASE.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Education

  • Actively advertise the PW-IASE curriculum (initiate discussions with Industry for enrollment in one of our Certificates and M.Eng. programs).
  • Benchmark the curriculum of PW-IASE against other competing programs. Identify the differentiating elements of the curriculum and propose future directions for the Institute to remain current and cutting-edge.
  • Be responsible for the organizing, scheduling, and realization of PW-IASE courses. Coordinate with instructors, collect student evaluations, and report to the Director and PW-IASE Industry Advisory Board on the performance of courses.
  • Hold quarterly meetings with instructors of curriculum tracks to ensure continuity between courses within a track.
  • Support proposals for academic projects from Federal Funding Agencies.
  • Coordinate Capstone Design projects (communicate with Academic and Industry Advisors and have a feasible list of assignments).
  • Help improve the media and methods of online dissemination of the PW-IASE curriculum.

Research

  • Support the development of a research program in the field of Systems Engineering education.
  • Support education proposals with tasks of integration of research with education.

Outreach and industry engagement

  • Run a campaign to advertise the PW-IASE in the state and globally (research, education and outreach activities).
  • Coordinate the activities of the PW-IASE Academic Industry Advisory Board.
  • Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, or engineering.
  • Four (4) to five (5) years of post-degree experience in academia, R&D, or manufacturing; OR Master's degree and two (2) to four (4) years of post-degree experience in academia, R&D, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable concepts and strategies, knowledge of site planning and infrastructure systems, and knowledge of working with corporate and industry personnel.
  • Highly motivated, ability to work individually and as part of a team. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students, and industry.  
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and acumen. 
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing budgets. 
  • Highly organized and exhibits attention to detail.   
  • Deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Engineering, or Systems Engineering, STEM or Business and/or Marketing.
  • Five (5) years of experience negotiating partner/developer agreements, executing research facilities projects or projects similar in scope and complexity, and working with industry. 
  • Seven (7) years of experience in academia, R&D, or manufacturing.
  • Experience in external marketing efforts (i.e., advertising, branding, sales, etc.).
  • Experience with the creation of directed social media content.
  • Experience managing staff and creating a team environment.
  • Prior engagement with the International Council of Systems Engineering (INCOSE).

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, end-date position with an anticipated start date of as soon as possible. This position is subject to annual renewal based on performance and available funding.
