JOB SUMMARY
The School of Nursing at the University of Connecticut is seeking a dynamic and team-oriented candidate for a full-time position responsible for reviewing, tracking, and managing outcomes and documentation related to professional licensure requirements in support of our undergraduate and graduate programs. They will also research all state requirements for RN licensing and APRN licensing and credentialing to ensure incoming and current student, as well as program, compliance. The successful candidate will report to the Associate Dean of Graduate Programs. They will need to be open-minded, forward-thinking, and collaborative in addressing administrative and program needs. They will independently perform a full range of confidential administrative and support activities requiring the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of diverse individuals as well as take direction from internal administrators and collaborate with the School’s leadership team.
The School has a vibrant, multidisciplinary faculty dedicated to advancing knowledge through research, teaching, advising, and community engagement. The School has been in a period of expansion, recruiting new faculty and staff in recent years to meet growing student needs. The School has diverse academic offerings and has a large undergraduate major cohort and a growing graduate program. The School actively engages in educating and training the next generation of nursing professionals, offering an undergraduate pre-licensure program, an accelerated one-year nursing program, Masters and both the DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) and Ph.D. programs in Nursing. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Researches and investigates state RN and APRN licensing requirements. Maintains an up-to-date database of state requirements and the School’s ability to meet those requirements, reviewing requirements quarterly to ensure changes are included. Serves as a primary point of contact for the School concerning state licensing requirements.
- Assures verification, during the admissions cycle, that the UConn Nursing undergraduate program meets the standards for state-specific RN licensing requirements for incoming nursing students. Works with the university admissions office to write verification letters to be included with the admissions package.
- Provides verification that the UConn Master’s program meets standards for state-specific APRN licensing and credentialing requirements required by each state for the Master’s and BS-DNP students.
- Secures, manages, and renews permission to operate in each state. Organizes, prepares information/forms, and applies for permission for the School of Nursing to operate outside of Connecticut and tracks necessary compliance by required deadlines. Monitors the status of pending applications for out of state PTO and resolves any issues that may arise during the application process. Maintains PTO dashboard. Serves as subject matter expert concerning School of Nursing out of state PTO.
- Coordinates with the University’s Director of State Authorization to update the University’s Professional Licensure/Certification Dashboard concerning the status of meeting professional licensing and certification requirements. Provides data meeting the criteria for inclusion in the annual report on the School of Nursing’s out of state learning placements across the nursing programs distributed to the Provost Office and Director of State Authorization. Identifies trends concerning licensure and credentialing requirements and students’ and programs’ ability to meet those requirements; recommends actions and solutions to leadership.
- Serves as a resource to Graduate Track Directors by providing direction in the coordinating of screening of potential graduate student applicants to ensure SON has permission to operate distance education and experiential learning in the student’s state of residence prior to acceptance to graduate program of study.
- Prepares, ensures completion of documentation, and processes state board paperwork for BS, CEIN_BS, and MS graduates; tracks NCLEX pass rates, certification completion, RN and APRN licensing, and graduate employment data. Creates and disseminates post-graduation follow-up surveys.
- Reviews licenses of UConn Nursing faculty on an annual basis to ensure nursing licenses are up to date. Provides license and credentialing verification for incoming faculty hires.
- Reviews student academic records to create, upon request, reference letters from the Dean outlining student completion of the program, academic standing, and current work location.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Evidence of clear and concise verbal communication skills and writing ability. Experience with writing, designing, editing, and publicizing internal and external communications and reports.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with a wide variety of constituents, such as faculty, staff, students, university administrators, and external constituents.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting while taking initiative and exercising sound judgement.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, and the ability to work within tight and conflicting deadlines, with attention to detail and demonstrated experience providing organized support in a team environment.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours on occasion to support events and programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, health information management, business administration, or related field.
- Master’s Degree.
- An additional five (5) more years of administrative experience.
- Knowledge and familiarity with professional licensing, faculty licensure, and certifications.
- Knowledge of reviewing professional licensure requirements for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Demonstrated success in administrative operations in a higher education School setting or similar University setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications such as MS Office. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- One or more years of experience with managing data related to state licensing requirements.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with office administration and management, including the ability to multi-task and manage shifting priorities.
- Experience with rules and guidelines in relation to permission to operate in out of state placements.
- Demonstrated experience exercising discretion and judgment in the management of confidential matters. Ability to independently resolve problems of unusual difficulty and represent supervisor regarding administrative detail and procedures.
- Demonstrated evidence of working with databases.
