JOB SUMMARY

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Sponsored Program Services (SPS) at the University of Connecticut (UConn) is seeking a dedicated Senior Subaward Specialist to manage, administer, and monitor the University’s subaward-sponsored research portfolio.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the Associate Director of Pre-Award and Federal Contracting, the Senior Subaward Specialist will be responsible for the administration of outgoing sub-award agreements in accordance with the appropriate federal, state, and institutional regulatory requirements.
  • This position serves as the primary point of contact with internal and external parties, consulting with faculty, SPS staff, and departmental administrative personnel regarding subaward-related issues.
  • The Senior Subaward Specialist is responsible for review of sub-award proposal materials, sub-recipient entity information, and supplemental documentation such as audit reports; assessment of the risk of entering into the sub-award; and drafting and negotiation of the agreement with a sub-recipient partner, including the mitigation of any identified risk. 
  • This position interfaces and represents UConn routinely with subrecipients. 
  • This position performs related duties as required. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree and at least six years of experience in sponsored programs, including the negotiation of grants, contracts, subcontracts, and other agreement types; OR Master’s degree and at least four years of experience in sponsored programs, including the negotiation of grants, contracts, subcontracts, and other agreement types. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree and years requirement
  2. Demonstrated ability to network and build consensus with internal and external stakeholders. 
  3. Ability to research and assist with the resolution of highly complex issues with legal, fiscal, and ethical/compliance implications.  
  4. Superior oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and serve as a liaison between sponsors, all levels of university administration, and principal investigators.  
  5. Customer service orientation, with the ability to clearly communicate contractual concerns and issues. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  1. Experience working in an institution of higher education.
  2. Experience working in a high-volume, high-production, and/or sponsored-research-intensive environment. Experience with material transfer agreements, non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements, service agreements, and research agreements. 
  3. Familiarity with granting agencies (government, international, private, industry, etc.).
  4. Experience with a wide variety of FDP Contracting templates.
