INTRODUCTION
The Neag School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position in English Education at the rank of Associate/Full Professor to begin August 2025. The successful candidate will join a dynamic department and is expected to have an established research agenda of distinction in English Education commensurate with the rank of Associate/Full Professor. We are especially interested in applicants with a record of success working with pre-service English teachers and who are prepared to undertake a key role in leading and advancing our English teacher preparation programs, including course development, teaching secondary English teaching methods courses, and accreditation.
The University of Connecticut’s Curriculum and Instruction programs are ranked among the top 30 of their kind in the nation, per U.S. News & World Report. With nearly 30 faculty members, the department offers concentrations in Agriculture Education, Elementary Education, Mathematics Education, Music Education, Reading/Language Arts Education, Science Education, Social Studies/History Education, and World Languages Education, in addition to English Education.

The Neag School of Education is one of the top 25 public graduate schools of education in the nation and stands out as a major contributor to instructional and research excellence at the University of Connecticut. With academic departments dedicated to educational leadership, educational psychology, and curriculum and instruction, the Neag School also offers a five-year integrated bachelor’s/master’s program in teacher education and a one-year, post-baccalaureate teacher education program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses in English Education, advise pre-service English teachers, and lead our English teacher preparation programs, which include: program maintenance, improvement efforts, course development, and accreditation; conducting research and scholarly activities in areas of expertise; seeking extramural funding to support scholarly activities (as appropriate); applying understanding of issues of diversity, equity and social justice to scholarship and teaching; advising students at all levels; working in collaboration with public school partners; and providing service to programs, department, school, University, State and professional communities. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups, integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools, and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learners and intellectual interests.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed doctorate in education or related area, with an emphasis in English Education or a related area.
- Established research agenda of distinction in English Education commensurate with the rank of Associate/Full Professor.
- Classroom teaching experience at the middle or secondary level.
- Demonstrated leadership in and/or commitment to preparing secondary English teachers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- National leadership in English Education.
- Evidence of or potential for participating in externally funded research projects.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a range of English Education stakeholders.
- Direct experience in and/or commitment to supporting student learning in culturally and linguistically diverse settings.
- Potential to contribute to the diverse theoretical orientations and research methodologies in the department.
- Commitment to cultural diversity and literacy instruction that promotes social justice.
- Membership and involvement in professional organizations such as NCTE and/or AERA.
- Experience advising master’s and doctoral students.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2025. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus with the possibility of work at UConn’s regional campuses across the state. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
