THOMAS F. GALLIVAN, JR. CHAIR OF REAL PROPERTY LAW
The University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Law seeks applications from lateral candidates for the Thomas F. Gallivan, Jr. Chair of Real Property Law. This is a tenured faculty position reserved for an outstanding scholar with an international or national reputation for excellence in property law scholarship, teaching, and service. Candidates for the Gallivan Chair should have an ambitious research agenda that seeks to shape contemporary conversations in property, land use and/or real estate law. We welcome applications from candidates pursuing innovative work within these areas that involve issues such as housing, local government, environmental law, and resiliency.
The Gallivan Chair will be expected to provide vision and leadership through scholarly research and engagement at major national and international conferences and symposia, along with developing innovative Law School program and academic offerings. The Chair will also be expected to engage with members of the Connecticut real property bar. The position provides discretionary endowment funds to support research, to build relationships with property scholars, practitioners, and policymakers, and to engage with the broader legal community. The Gallivan Chair presents a unique opportunity to collaborate with the Center for Energy & Environmental Law, the Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation (circa.uconn.edu), and other partners throughout the University. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A JD degree or equivalent terminal degree in a related field.
- Qualifications for appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure.
- A distinguished record of high-impact scholarship in property law, land use, real estate law, or closely related areas.
- Demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching and a commitment to student mentorship.
- Willingness to engage with members of the Connecticut bar.
- A demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace, legal academy, and/or profession.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience leading academic centers, programs, or policy initiatives.
- Proven track record of bridging academic theory with legal practice or public policy.
- Experience in securing and managing external research funding.
- Interest in developing new academic offerings appropriate for legal and other professional communities, such as planners, municipal officials, and others.
- Interest in elevating the scholarly profile and professional engagement of colleagues across the property law field.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, 9-month appointment for a tenured-at-hire position. Lateral applicants must meet Law School and University requirements for appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure. Salary and rank will be highly competitive and commensurate with background, qualifications, and experience. Candidates should expect to work at the Law School located in Hartford, Connecticut.
