JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of an Associate Director in the Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills and in partnership with other colleagues, the Career Coach (Career Consultant) develops, plans, and administers career-related programs and activities designed to assist undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni from a diversity of backgrounds, identities, and disciplines in building career readiness competencies and achieving post-graduation success.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coaches and advises students on major and career exploration, career development, career readiness, and post-graduation opportunities (including employment, further education, and other pursuits).
  • Provides guidance and assists students in preparing career planning materials and resources, including resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, teaching and diversity statements, and interview preparation materials.
  • Provides continued support for students from diverse backgrounds, identities, and disciplines through department-wide efforts that promote equitable access to career readiness and student success opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains liaisons with faculty and staff, student organizations, student clubs and organizations, and alumni to strengthen career readiness and experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Develops and writes informational materials for distribution as appropriate to the relevant constituents, including career readiness resources.
  • Designs, administers, and conducts workshops including interviewing, resume development, job search skills, internships, LinkedIn, networking, and career readiness skill development in coordination with classes, academic departments, and student groups.
  • Participates and engages in internal departmental committee/s that promote and enhance career readiness, experiential learning, and student success.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in professional networks to continually develop and renew career development and career readiness resources for students.
  • Keeps informed regarding current developments and trends in the job market, workforce readiness, and employer expectations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling or a related field and a minimum of three years of related experience OR master’s degree in counseling or a related field and a minimum of two years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated business writing and editing skills, as evidenced by applicant materials including resume and cover letter.
  • Experience providing effective presentations in a variety of settings (one-on-one, small group, large group).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience working with international students and other diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships both within the university and with corporate executives in relation to college recruiting.
  • Experience as a career coach or counselor.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time 12-month position and may include occasional nights and weekends. This position is considered end-dated as it is renewed annually for up to five years based on funding and satisfactory performance reviews.
