JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut Division of Athletics is accepting applications for a full-time position of Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the Head Women’s Tennis Coach in all aspects of student-athlete support: developing training plans that account for the specific needs of student-athletes, including practice plans; meeting with and developing clear communication channels with student-athletes; supporting academic success; selecting and ordering team equipment and apparel; and maintaining records and statistics.
  • Assists in the scheduling of contests and practices in accordance with NCAA and Big East policies.
  • Available for practices and overnight travel to competitions. Helps to organize competition, transportation, meals, and lodging for travel.
  • Participates in promotional and fundraising initiatives. Effectively engages in special events to generate interest within the College and local tennis community, including networking and playing tennis with alumni and donors, and exploring community service opportunities.
  • Transports student-athletes to competitions and practices, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Tennis Coach.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years’ experience (in the past five years) as a Division I women’s tennis assistant coach.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating team logistics, communicating clearly and consistently with student-athletes and staff, and experience supporting event or program activities involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience using computer applications for word processing, email communication, and data management. 
  • Experience recruiting prospective student-athletes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree.
  • Collegiate tennis playing experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
  • A valid driver's license. 
  • Management or team-building experience.
  • A network of relationships with regional tennis contacts.
  • Possesses coaching and student-athlete development philosophies consistent with that of the Division of Athletics and its women’s tennis program.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

This position requires a valid driver's license to transport student-athletes to competition and practices as needed. Employment of the successful candidate is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check.
