JOB SUMMARY

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) is seeking a motivated, team focused eLearning Developer 1 to join UConn Online’s eCampus eLearning Development group. Under general supervision of the Assistant Director for eLearning, the candidate will support the development of high-quality credit and non-credit online courses, faculty training efforts, and UConn Online and eCampus initiatives. They will demonstrate experience and skill in building courses, applying pedagogical knowledge, and supporting faculty development. The ideal candidate will possess the right balance of technology and interpersonal skills and will be an integral part of design teams as they fulfill the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning’s mission, working collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works collaboratively with Instructional Developers, faculty, and other team members to analyze, develop, and implement a standard course design plan. 
  • Modifies and enhances existing courses and course design using current and emerging technologies, industry standards, and best practices. 
  • Assists in developing credit and non-credit courses, and/or learning modules using a learning management system (LMS), content authoring platforms, and leveraging eLearning technologies. 
  • Provides training, insight, and guidance on new and existing eLearning technologies, initiatives, and policies to support staff and faculty on an individual- or group-basis. 
  • Maintains assessment and evaluation instruments for online courses and initiatives. 
  • Provides website support to communicate UConn Online’s eCampus goals, best practices, and processes. 
  • Stays current with emerging educational technologies and eLearning trends to recommend improvements in course design and development processes. 
  • Performs related duties, as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field with one year of related experience or five years of profession-based experience.  
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for course development, digital image creation, basic web design, and basic knowledge of video best practices.
  3. Experience using Microsoft Office and related software applications. 
  4. Proven knowledge of instructional design theory, process, and implementation. 
  5. Proven knowledge in the field of educational technology.
  6. Experience with technology support within an academic setting.  
  7. Experience in technical problem solving.  
  8. Experience developing online courses and materials. 
  9. Experience in creating, developing, and managing courses, course content, and activities using Learning Management Systems.
  10. Experience working on multiple projects while adhering to strict timelines and maintaining attention to detail.
  11. Demonstrated effective written communication skills. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience supporting the development of various types of courses; small and large enrollment, non-credit/professional development, different disciplines. 
  2. Experience creating and managing course content, learning objects, and activities using third party e-learning authoring tools (e.g. Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate), and SCORM implementation. 
  3. Experience in integrating digital content and OER content. 
  4. Experience creating accessible content and ability to act as a department resource in this area. 
  5. Experience in maintaining web content in web authoring platforms. 
  6. Experience applying Quality Matters standards to design and development. 
  7. Experience integrating adaptive learning software and methodology into higher education courses. 

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a permanent, full-time position, with a schedule of 35 hours per week, based on the main campus in Storrs. The anticipated hiring salary range is $51,344 - $66,747, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
