JOB SUMMARY
Supports the Center for Environmental Sciences and Engineering (CESE) Laboratories by preparing samples and operating analytical laboratory equipment, under guidance of Laboratory Managers, while adhering to specified protocols to ensure standardized results. This position works under the day-to-day guidance of the Organics Laboratory Manager, with the Laboratory Director as the supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares and analyzes samples, calculates and evaluates all resulting data, and submits raw data to the appropriate Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Performs all necessary corrections to datasets in a timely manner.
- Reviews all chain of custody (CoC) forms and project sheets to ensure that samples are analyzed correctly, and proper quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) is being performed.
- Performs routine instrument maintenance.
- Assists Laboratory Managers in the troubleshooting of instruments and supervision of undergraduate workers.
- Maintains cleanliness of all instruments and associated work areas.
- Adheres to all applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Up to one year of related work experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to prepare and maintain complete and accurate records.
- Good oral communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Good time management skills (multi-tasking).
- Works well independently and as a team member.
- Familiarity with US Environmental Protection Agency analytical methods and quality assurance protocols, or equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years of related work experience.
- Experience with the preparation and analysis of water and biological tissue samples for Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and harmful algal toxins.
- Demonstrated skill in critical thinking, problem solving, and analysis.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Experience with Project Management and Laboratory Information Management software.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
