INTRODUCTION
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SoCEE) in the College of Engineering at the University of Connecticut (UConn) is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenured/tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor focused on the engineering of the coastal ecosystem with implications for resilience and adaptation to climate change. Research areas include (but are not limited to) coastal flooding and management, wave dynamics and erosion, restoration and coastal ecosystem management, watershed modeling and water quality, or sustainable energy resources. Candidates whose research may use field observations, modeling, or artificial intelligence tools are of interest. The successful candidate is expected to form strong collaborations with existing faculty within and outside SoCEE and establish and sustain a creative research and education program. The successful candidate may contribute to the development of an undergraduate minor in coastal engineering.
The SoCEE emphasizes innovation, public engagement, and sustainability to meet evolving global challenges in urbanization and environmental resilience. SoCEE has had strong recent growth in enrollment and research expenditures, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in both Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering and houses several major research and technical assistance centers. This position has the opportunity to collaborate with strong research centers such as Eversource Energy Center, CT Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation (CIRCA), Human Rights Institute, Center for Environmental Science and Engineering, and/or to enhance the development of emerging research strengths in engineering education and environmental justice to facilitate cross-disciplinary research in sustainability and the environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Coastal, Marine or Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
- Ability to teach undergraduate engineering courses in related areas.
- Demonstrated potential in establishing successful research and scholarship.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Engineering license or the ability and intent to obtain licensure within five years.
- An undergraduate degree in environmental, coastal, civil, or related engineering discipline.
- An outstanding record of research and scholarship excellence.
- Demonstration of effective teaching and integrating contemporary pedagogy into instruction.
- A demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2025. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Faculty may also be asked to teach at one of UConn’s regional campuses as part of their ordinary workload. Salary and rate will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
