JOB SUMMARY
Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) facilitates the optimal health and lifelong well-being of every UConn student by providing the highest quality of compassionate care and exceptional health and wellness programs. SHaW’s health promotion team contributes to this mission by cultivating conditions that foster well-being, empower students, and advance health equity.
The Program Manager for Recovery Support Initiatives manages all aspects of a supportive student success program where students in recovery and in hope of recovery from substance use and other mental and behavioral health disorders can achieve their academic goals and participate in a genuine college experience. The Program Manager is specifically charged with developing initiatives for UConn’s Recovery Community (URC) based upon a deep understanding of the support needs of students in recovery while also building relationships across the university community to provide a robust base of support for students in recovery and their families.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Envisions and manages student-centered initiatives associated with UConn’s Recovery Community (URC), including, but not limited to, recovery coaching, all recovery meeting facilitation, community building programs and events, Recovery Ally training, and outreach to students in recovery and their families.
- Researches and implements best practices and evidence-based strategies to support the academic and personal success of college students in recovery.
- Facilitates a program culture that supports the vision, mission, and core values of the URC.
- Prioritizes equity-minded strategies that promote well-being in collaboration with marginalized student populations and campus partners engaged with these communities.
- Collaborates with teammates to integrate recovery programs and efforts into SHaW’s overall strategic priorities.
- Trains and supervises graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers who facilitate recovery activities including recovery coaching, meeting facilitation, and outreach.
- Collaborates with SHaW and multiple university departments to host substance free community building activities and otherwise connect students who choose to navigate and are curious about navigating their college experience without using substances.
- Partners with university colleagues to develop substance free housing options including, but not limited to, recruiting and programming for students interested in substance free housing options as part of the Wellness Community (special interest residential community).
- Facilitates peer empowerment, connection, and leadership opportunities among URC members.
- Develops and implements an outreach and recruitment strategy to promote the URC.
- Connects students in recovery with campus resources and health providers as appropriate.
- Consults with SHaW providers, treatment centers, and community health providers as appropriate to coordinate student support.
- Connects to the larger collegiate recovery community network as well as external statewide and national recovery organizations to bring innovative resources and best practices to UConn.
- Collects data to measure effectiveness of outreach and programmatic efforts; recommends changes to promote desired outcomes.
- Performs administrative functions associated with the position including securing and managing confidential student information, coordinating purchase orders for materials to support programs and events, and managing funds allocated to recovery support initiatives for supplies and expenses (could include grant funding).
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the Cordial Storrs House which serves as the home of student recovery support initiatives. Creates, reviews and monitors compliance with House policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
- Serves as an expert resource to students, staff, faculty, parents, and others on matters relating to how to best support students in recovery, as well as regarding recovery policies, procedures, and activities.
- Supports departmental goals, including participating in strategic committees and other team development efforts and is a key contributor and core member of the cross-functional SHaW Substance Misuse team.
- Facilitates orientation programs and engages in other division and campus wide events as a representative of SHaW.
- Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of related experience. One year of experience must be serving as an advanced team member.
- Demonstrated understanding of the support needs of individuals in recovery from mental, behavioral health, and/or substance use disorders.
- Previous experience delivering direct support to college students or equivalent populations.
- Demonstrated ability to independently implement programs and resolve day-to-day problems.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to form effective work relationships.
- Ability to interpret and maintain confidential records and program data.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple activities with competing deadlines.
- Previous experience leading or supervising project/program teams.
- Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion into program management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Lived experience with recovery.
- Previous experience managing or coordinating a collegiate recovery program.
- Previous experience supervising professional, student, and/or volunteer staff.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time position with a full range of state health and retirement benefits. This position requires some evening and weekend activities to reach desired audiences and program objectives.
