JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Director, the Student Employment Manager (Student Services Program Assistant 1) implements the department's student human resource program for UConn Recreation. This program includes the recruitment and retention of student personnel, bi-weekly payroll compliance, employee training and education, workplace policy, employee workflow and database management, and performance review. The position also supports the department in managing professional staff searches and HR administration.  The position provides essential support by promoting a welcoming and inclusive organizational culture centered on providing student employees with intentional workplace development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly implements the departmental student employment human resources program. 
  • Responsible for student employee recruitment, ensuring required personnel levels for all departmental units.
  • Manages and implements periodic departmental recruitment initiatives, including the
  • scheduling and supervision of the hiring team (10+ students), review of job applications, intake interviews, and coordinating with UConn Rec Professional Staff to schedule unit interviews.
  • Collect and catalogue student applications for departmental positions; communicate with applicants regarding application status.
  • Assist Senior Associate with the development of centralized onboarding materials for all new student employees. Train materials to new employees as required. Revise and update annually to ensure effectiveness and accuracy.
  • Maintain online employee training environment. Assign student employees centralized and job-specific training materials and verify completion of training assignments.
  • Manage bi-weekly student employee payroll and time-keeping approval.
  • Maintain an informational database on all student employees and provide timely and accurate reports when requested. Assist Senior Associate with ongoing human resources reporting.
  • Process payroll for new employees, ensuring compliance and accuracy, and coordinating with personnel from the university Payroll department to resolve discrepancies.
  • Coordinate annual student performance appraisals.
  • Maintain staff uniform inventory, ensuring timely delivery of materials to student employees.
  • Serve as lead for all human resource matters related to professional staff searches and special payroll agreements.
  • Assist Senior Associate Director with development and coordination of periodic staff appreciation and incentive initiatives.
  • Additional related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One or more year(s) of professional experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience working in higher education.
  • Previous experience in human resource operations.
  • Proficient with one or more applications related to department operations (e.g., Fusion, Connect2Concepts, SubItUp, PeopleSoft)
  • Proficient with one or more of the following HR/Payroll application software platforms: Core-CT, PageUp, HireRight.
