JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut Waterbury Campus invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month position of Admissions Officer 1. The successful candidate will serve as a representative of the University of Connecticut to prospective students, school counselors, and other relevant parties at on- and off-campus undergraduate enrollment initiatives. The individual will also review and evaluate applicant credentials for admission. Admissions Officers perform duties related to the recruitment, admission, and enrollment of undergraduates in accordance with university and departmental policies. They will have a strong ethical sense, good judgment, and a deep commitment to and experience with antiracist practice, equity, and inclusion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this section is to list the primary, fundamental responsibilities of the job – that is, the duties that are central and vital to the role.  

  • Promotes and carries out undergraduate recruitment and outreach initiatives for UConn Waterbury, using data-driven strategies, community partnerships, and targeted communications to advance campus and University enrollment goals. 
  • Assists with the coordination and execution of prospective and admitted student events, including Fall Campus Visit Day, UConn Bound Day, Husky-for-a-Day, Preview Nights, School Counselor Breakfasts, panel discussions, and virtual sessions. 
  • Coordinates Waterbury campus visits, oversees group visit programming (admissions presentations, faculty workshops, student-led tours), manages weekly campus tours, and supports orientation programming. 
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student employees serving as campus tour guides and admissions support staff, ensuring high-quality visitor experiences. 
  • Performs first-year student application review, evaluating and processing applications for admission, scholarships, and program consideration in accordance with university policies and enrollment objectives. 
  • Provides prospective students with information on admissions requirements, processes, and deadlines, connecting them with financial aid staff, advisors, and other University resources as needed. Serves as the primary admissions contact and resource for prospective students, families, school counselors, educators, and the University community, managing all phone, email, and in-person inquiries. 
  • Engages in extensive in-state travel to represent UConn at high school visits, college fairs, panel presentations, and recruitment events.  
  • Designs, produces, and distributes recruitment and outreach materials (flyers, digital signage, Slate email campaigns, and presentations) highlighting UConn Waterbury’s admissions requirements, programs, services, and campus life. 
  • Compiles and analyzes admissions and enrollment data, prepares reports for campus leadership, and maintains accurate records to support strategic planning and decision-making. 
  • Participates in ongoing admissions training, policy review, and professional development to remain current on academic program requirements, enrollment restrictions, and best practices in student recruitment. 
  • May represent UConn Waterbury Admissions in first-year admissions meetings, regional campus forums, director retreats, and marketing sessions to ensure alignment with institutional priorities and to advocate for the needs of UConn Waterbury. 
  • Mentor students through the UConn Connects program, providing support for academic success and engagement. 
  • Provides support and assistance to university-wide admissions initiatives, as assigned. 
  • Performs related duties as needed. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in related field.  
  2. Two years of related experience.  
  3. Experience with utilizing technology in work responsibilities. 
  4. Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. 
  5. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  6. Demonstrated ability for accuracy and attention to detail. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience working with and supporting diverse communities in an urban campus setting.  
  2. Experience and/or familiarity with marketing and communications practices, including email campaigns and outreach for prospective students.  
  3. Experience in public speaking and relationship-building with prospective students, families, and school partners.  
  4. Demonstrated proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Slate) and standard office software (Microsoft Office Suite).  
  5. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.

This is a full-time, end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding.
