JOB SUMMARY
The Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department is seeking a skilled Research Assistant 1 to assist with research in the Schultz lab. Some in-state travel will be required (day trips to Avery Point, potentially out on LISTs, Blackhawk, and museum visits).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Microscopic examination, digital imaging, and measurement of fish scales and otoliths.
- Processing fish eye lenses for stable isotope analysis.
- Coordinating with other co-investigators, technicians, and research assistants.
- Data recording and management.
- Maintaining an organized lab space, including specimen and chemical inventory.
- Field work collecting fish and hydrological measurements.
- Maintaining up-to-date trainings required for research compliance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. in Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field.
- Experience with microscopes.
- Experience with PC software (especially Excel) and file management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Experience conducting research in biology.
- Familiarity with the biology of fishes.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a 12-month appointment with the potential for reappointment contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding. This position is covered by the AAUP bargaining unit.
