JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Capitalization and Project Accounting Supervisor, the Capitalization Accountant performs complex accounting functions and prepares fiscal analyses in accordance with sound accounting practices and principles. Responsible for overseeing specified accounting functions relating to fixed assets.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Reconciles the activities of the University between accounts and systems. Prepares and submits accounting entries.
  2. Drafts fixed asset sections of financial statement content and performs detailed reviews.
  3. Reviews accounting transactions and makes adjustments as necessary.
  4. Monitors and analyzes fixed asset account balances and functions.
  5. Responds to questions from the University population regarding financial entries. Serves as a resource to departments in interpreting accounting policies, regulations, and statutes.
  6. Prepares fixed asset reports and analyses, utilizing proper application of accounting policies.
  7. Audits contracts, orders, and documentation and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions.
  8. Reviews requisitions and purchase orders to ensure proper coding for fixed assets.
  9. Coordinates the analysis of financial systems and related modules, resolves system problems, assists in implementing new systems and recommends changes to existing systems.
  10. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in accounting or finance; or CPA and 3 to 5 years of accounting experience; or Bachelor's degree in accounting and 5 or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sound accounting practices and principles.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve complex accounting problems.
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports and communicate effectively with a wide variety of university personnel and certain internal and external customers.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, purchasing and fixed asset systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Public Accountant.
  • Experience in accounting for capital asset activity and depreciation.
  • Experience in accounting and financial reporting for higher education or governmental institutions.
  • Knowledge of Kuali Financial Systems, Kuali Financial Datamart, WebFOCUS, HuskyBuy.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
