JOB SUMMARY

Information Technology Services at the University of Connecticut is seeking a talented Oracle Database Administrator to join our team. The Oracle Database Administrator will be vital in the monitoring, troubleshooting, patching, performance tuning, and problem-solving of our university's Oracle database environments. Under the supervision of the IT Manager, and with input from other team members, you will not only contribute technically but will work closely with other distributed IT teams and business stakeholders across the university. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Database Administrator 1 

  • Identifies and resolves system errors.  Consults with teammates and application owners to resolve problems with the platform and system performance. 
  • Assists technical staff in the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of database solutions and tools. 
  • Research and document procedures, techniques, or programs to analyze or improve the performance of software systems. 
  • Performs software installations, patches, and upgrades made to the software.   
  • Works with Oracle support to resolve issues. 
  • Writes scripts and/or programs to assist with data administration.  
  • Works with team and management to implement enterprise solutions. 

Database Administrator 2 

  • Identifies and resolves system errors.  Consults with application owners and functional users to resolve problems with the platform and system performance. 
  • Assists technical staff in the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of database solutions and tools. 
  • Research and document procedures, techniques, or programs to analyze or improve the performance of software systems. 
  • Documents and performs software installations, patches, and upgrades made to the software.   
  • Works with Oracle support to identify and resolve issues. 
  • Writes scripts and/or programs to assist with data administration.  
  • Works with team and management to enhance and implement enterprise solutions. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Database Administrator 1

  • Six years of related experience; or an associate degree and four years of related experience; or a bachelor's degree and two years of related experience.
  • Experience with managing Oracle Databases.
  • Experience with the execution of database backup, recovery, and failover tools and technologies.

Database Administrator 2

  • Eight years of related experience; or an associate degree and six years of related experience; or a bachelor's degree and four years of related experience.
  • Experience with managing Oracle Databases.
  • Experience with security, recovery, performance, and capacity of databases.
  • Experience with the design and implementation of database backup, recovery, and failover tools and technologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Database Administrator 1

  • Experience with security, recovery, performance, and capacity of databases.
  • Experience with Linux OS operating systems, specifically RedHat Linux.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC, Exadata, Data Guard, RMAN, and OEM installation, configuration, optimization, use, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of other database systems such as MS SQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB.
  • Knowledge of data analytics technologies and systems.
  • Knowledge of ETL principles and best practices.
  • Experience with data encryption, specifically Transparent Data Encryption.

Database Administrator 2

  • Experience with Linux OS operating systems, specifically RedHat Linux.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC, Exadata, Data Guard, RMAN, and OEM installation, configuration, optimization, use, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of other database systems such as MS SQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB.
