JOB SUMMARY

As a part of the Office of University Compliance, the Clinical Policy Coordinator will provide integral support and coordination to the clinical policy management functions primarily at UConn Health. The Clinical Policy Coordinator will assist with the coordination of the review, revision, and promulgation of clinical policies, procedures, and standards for the clinical enterprise. Utilizing clinical expertise, the Clinical Policy Coordinator will assist in ensuring consistency, efficiency, and access to clinical policies across the institution and that regulatory and accreditation requirements are met. Additionally, this position will serve as a central resource for providing guidance and assistance on all aspects of the clinical policy management process.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Support the centralized coordination of policy management processes, including the formulation, review, publication, and implementation of UConn Health clinical policies and related procedures and standards;
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to research and analyze information required to initiate new or revise existing written documents;
  • Schedule and oversee the regular review of new and existing clinical policies and associated materials for accuracy, consistency, and compliance;
  • Perform quality assurance and document control measures;
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the clinical policy program such as recommending the consolidation, decommission, and/or archiving of policies where appropriate;
  • Stay apprised of changing provisions set by accrediting bodies and within federal healthcare requirements, state laws, and regulations to help to ensure policies remain in compliance;
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of policy governance standards and procedures that allow for efficient and effective policy management;
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and clinical experts to develop and implement consistent and intuitive workflows to increase efficiency and effectiveness;
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of awareness and educational resources aimed at enhancing workforce understanding of policies and policy processes;
  • Create education and development opportunities for policy owners and committee members to ensure consistent understanding and application of standards;
  • Socialize policies and processes to relevant parties through communication and training;
  • Assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting of key metrics related to the policy program to be reported to leadership and oversight groups;
  • Consult with policy owners, stakeholders, and committee chairs to assess policy needs and develop policies in conformance with established standards and best practices;
  • Facilitate and/or participate in meetings where policies and other related documents are reviewed for clarity and consistency and/or approval (e.g., Nursing Standards Committee, Policy Migration Team, Clinical Policy Committee, etc.);
  • Work with the Policy Software Administrator and policy owners to ensure policies are uploaded in a timely manner to the official online central policy repository;
  • Generate reports for monitoring and tracking policy processes and identify opportunities for enhancements to established processes;
  • Support the strategic planning and implementation of accreditations, certifications, and compliance projects and identify any potential gaps;
  • Lend clinical expertise to policy development and provide guidance and resources to policy owners on policy development best practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related clinical field, or a combination of education and experience
  • Three (3) years’ relevant experience with policy process management or project management
  • Experience in a clinical environment such as a hospital, clinic, or academic medical center
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite, web-based collaboration, and document management platforms
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory agencies and governing standards
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex policies, rules, and regulations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s degree in nursing or a related field
  • Over four (4) years of relevant experience with policy process management or project management
  • Experience in an academic medical center or an institution of higher education
  • Knowledge and understanding of U.S. Sentencing Commission Guidelines
  • Experience with policy management or electronic medical records software
  • Clinical experience in developing highly technical patient assessments, implementing complex patient care plans, administering extensive medication protocols, and/or educating interdisciplinary staff using evidence-based research

APPOINTMENT TERMS 

This position is a full-time, 40-hours per week position, Monday through Friday. Telecommuting on a hybrid basis may be allowed subject to authorization and University policy.
