JOB SUMMARY

The UConn Library is seeking an Access Services Coordinator to provide excellent customer service at the UConn Avery Point Library.  The Access Services Coordinator fosters a culture of hospitality for all UConn Library visitors, including students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.  The successful candidate will provide coverage for the service desk to provide a consistent user experience and oversee the work of student employees.  

As an active member of the Avery Point Library, the position reports to the Avery Point Library Director and contributes to the advancement of the UConn Library through collaboration with colleagues and a proactive approach to supporting and coordinating user-focused services.  Along with all UConn Library personnel, the successful candidate makes a positive contribution to a culture of inclusion and respect in all interactions within the Library and across the University and exemplifies the UConn Library values of kindness and trust, curiosity and inquiry, equity and inclusion, and having fun.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Plans, organizes, maintains, and oversees the processes and operations of user services at the Avery Point Library, including circulation, general information, equipment checkout, stacks and facilities maintenance, and security.  Provides information and basic reference assistance and superior customer service at the service desk to all members of the UConn community and is responsible for ensuring full desk coverage across all service hours.
  2. Leads, trains, and supervises student employees serving at the service desk, provides direct coverage for the service desk during student employee gaps.
  3. Coordinates the physical organization and maintenance of collections housed in the UConn Avery Point Library.  Makes recommendations related to planning for collections growth, relocation of materials, and UConn Library reformatting projects as appropriate.
  4. Prepares, collects, and analyzes a variety of data and information and summarizes findings in reports and other communication mediums for the UConn Library as appropriate
  5. Participates in unit, area, and Library ongoing assessment of access services workflows and range/quality of service in order to provide recommendations for improved services.
  6. Creates and maintains documentation to instruct patrons and/or Library staff in the discovery, access, and use of Library collections, programs, procedures, and resources.
  7. Collaborates and coordinates with Interlibrary Services with regard to Interlibrary Services materials and processes.
  8. Serves as Ad Hoc Essential/Emergency Support Services Staff for the UConn Avery Point Library.

  1. Hires, schedules, trains, and supervises student employees. 
  2. Determines work assignments and provides feedback to each student employee. 
  3. Approves student timecards and resolves time reporting and/or student payroll issues in a timely manner. 
  4. Manages student employment budget, providing allocation requests and ensuring student payroll expenditures remain within approved budget.
  5. Maintains current student employee personnel records.
  6. Adheres to the policies and procedures as outlined in the UConn Library Student Employee Handbook and the UConn Student Employment Guide.

  1. Participates in planning and actively contributes to Area and Unit priorities, initiatives, and operations through collaboration and cooperation.
  2. Demonstrates reliable and effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  4. Works effectively in current office applications, software, and communication tools as set by the UConn Library and University of Connecticut.

  6. Performs duties parallel to position responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Minimum of three years of related professional experience.
  3. Superior customer service skills and a demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  4. Working knowledge of integrated library systems.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to provide excellent student supervision.
  6. Strong collaboration, oral and written communication, interpersonal, and creative problem solving skills.
  7. Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records with a strong attention to detail.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team-based environment and be flexible in approach to problem solving and recommending, implementing, and supporting solutions.
  9. Demonstrated willingness to develop new skills and knowledge.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Demonstrated commitment to supporting and reinforcing the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  2. Previous experience working in an academic library or educational setting.
  3. Experience working with integrated library systems, preferably the ExLibris Alma ILS and Springshare.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge/proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of products or a similar software application package.
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines.
  6. Demonstrated ability to instruct and train individuals and groups.

This is a full-time position based in on the UConn Avery Point campus in Groton, Connecticut. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn and a highly desirable work environment. Salary is dependent upon education, qualifications, and experience.
