JOB SUMMARY

The Center for Open Research Resources & Equipment (COR²E, https://core.uconn.edu) at the University of Connecticut seeks a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to assist the director of UConn’s Statistical Consulting Services (SCS). The facility is currently staffed by the director, and a number of late-career Ph.D. students, with faculty support provided by Associate Professor Xiaojing Wang from UConn’s Department of Statistics. The SCS provides consulting services to over 50 schools and departments across UConn’s main campus, regional campuses and UConn Health, as well as supporting external clients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Postdoctoral researcher working in a consulting environment, the successful candidate will develop, not only their statistical skills, but also their verbal and written communication skills, through interacting with non-technical clients, writing reports, and running workshops. The Postdoctoral researcher will also build up their publication record through collaborations with clients, and gain invaluable experience assisting with, and participating in, grant proposals targeting a wide range of funding sources.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and enthusiastic to aid with providing statistical and data reproducibility support to SCS clients. It is expected that the majority of the Postdoctoral Associate’s time will be spent on client consultation, managing graduate assistants, and assisting the director with planning and implementing training and workshops to the UConn community and beyond.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or related field.
  2. Mastery of statistical programming in R.
  3. Proficiency with Rmarkdown, Quarto, & GitHub (please share profile with application).
  4. Familiarity with Overleaf (Latex).
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the desire to work in a service-oriented environment.
  6. Ability to co-manage a team of graduate assistants.
  7. Demonstrated ability as an instructor (e.g., course instructor, or TA leading discussion section).
  8. Ability and eagerness to provide technical consultations with large numbers of faculty and provide workshops/seminars/courses for faculty and students.
  9. Excellent organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Post-doctoral experience in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Data Science.
  2. Expertise with Python, Stata, SPSS, and/SAS.
  3. Experience working in Statistical Consulting or demonstrated ability to collaborate with non-statisticians. Experience in industrial settings is also a plus.
  4. Knowledge of common statistical methods (linear and generalized linear regression, multivariate methods, hierarchical models, structural equation modelling, survival analysis, Bayesian statistics). Please provide a transcript.
  5. A well-documented record of sharing code on GitHub.
  6. Exposure to or experience with large p small n problems (e.g., genomics, proteomics, metabolomics).
  7. Experience teaching statistical content (e.g., through seminar, workshops, and/or courses).

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, grant-funded, 12-month position. This position is subject to annual renewal, contingent on satisfactory performance and budget funding. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the American Association of University Professors UConn Chapter (AAUP). Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidates’ background and experience. The work location is at the Storrs campus.
