JOB SUMMARY

The Health Promotion team within Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) at the University of Connecticut, Storrs is seeking a Student Services Program Assistant 1 or a Student Services Program Assistant 2 to provide administrative support with the coordination of health and wellness programs and initiatives. Positional responsibilities include organizing, tracking, and assisting with the assessment of educational programs, as well as providing logistical support for collaborative outreach and education events for SHaW. The Program Assistant will foster positive interactions with stakeholders involved with these activities and will maintain confidentiality of personal and/or health information whenever necessary. Finally, the role will support the coordination of marketing and communication functions for the Department.

This position will be hired at either the Student Services Program Assistant 1 classification or the Student Services Program Assistant 2 classification dependent upon the incumbent’s experience, skills, abilities, and training as determined by the University. The Student Services Program Assistant 1 serves as an entry-level or early career professional who will work under more direct supervision and will regularly provide information on finished materials and completed tasks to others. The Student Services Program Assistant 2 performs a similar scope of duties with greater independence, working under general supervision and handling most work situations within established practice and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates program logistics and provides administrative support for a team of 9-10 program staff charged with providing effective health and wellness initiatives for the UConn community.
  • Serves as a resource on matters relating to program coordination, event planning, and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Assists departmental committees in the development, planning, budgeting, implementation, and marketing of various health and wellness programs and events.
  • Documents program information, compiles data, and prepares accurate reports, as required.
  • Organizes, archives, and maintains all content related to SHaW educational programs and communication with the campus community.
  • Performs office management duties in processing administrative and financial paperwork.
  • Assists with review of operating procedures for efficiency and effectiveness and recommends changes to improve program support.
  • Assists with producing informational and promotional materials including brochures, posters, advertising flyers, social media posts, and newspaper advertisements.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Student Services Program Assistant 1

  • Bachelor’s degree with 0-1 year of related experience; OR Associate's degree and 2-3 years of related work experience; OR 4-5 years of professional experience in office administration without a college degree.
  • Demonstrated experience providing administrative support.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and work with software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing principles of diversity, equity, and belonging.

Student Services Program Assistant 2 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years of related work experience; OR Associate’s degree and 4+ years related work experience; OR 6+ years of professional experience in office administration without a college degree.
  • Demonstrated experience providing administrative support, including strong planning, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and work with multiple software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment on routine tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing principles of diversity, equity, and belonging.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

For Both Levels 

  • Familiarity with working in a higher education environment.
  • Familiarity with issues and trends in collegiate health and wellness.
  • Knowledge of University rules and regulations.
  • Experience creating, designing, and editing communications in various media (e.g., print, social, web-based).
  • Experience producing reports and analyses of data.
