Under the limited supervision of the Director of the Rudd Center, the Digital Communications Coordinator will be responsible for planning and carrying out the Rudd Center’s digital media and communications activities. This individual will also work with Rudd research and advocacy staff to develop outreach materials to disseminate the Rudd Center’s mission and work to key audiences.


  • Maintain Rudd Center websites including the primary site,, and project specific sites (e.g.,, Manage all webpage functionality, design, updates, and relationships with external development teams.
  • Manage the Center’s social media presence on all platforms; track engagement; and make recommendations on how to increase reach and engagement.
  • Write copy for press releases, public service announcements, informational listings, and other publicity materials.
  • Reach out to members of the media with press releases for Center research papers; coordinate embargo dates with research journals; and coordinate outreach efforts with external public relations partners and relevant departments at UConn.
  • Maintain working relationships with journalists and other members of the media to promote coverage of Center programs, including feature articles, special coverage, interviews, and other media events.
  • Develop, design, and disseminate the Center’s monthly newsletter and other email marketing initiatives.
  • Track and report Rudd Center media coverage.
  • Provide layout and graphic design support in creating advocacy resource materials to facilitate the timely dissemination of study and report findings to grant funders, advocacy organizations, policy makers, and key partners.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students who are contributing to the communication activities of the Rudd Center.


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, design, or a related field and at least 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong writing skills and experience writing for websites, newsletters, and other public relations formats.
  • Experience creating content for social media promotion on a variety of platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram).
  • Experience using marketing, design, and communication techniques to maximize audience engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in marketing/communications tools, such as WordPress, Google Analytics, and email marketing automation software.
  • Proficiency in WordPress, HTML CSS, and other content management systems (CMS).
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.


  • Experience in creating infographics and photographic editing.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience using media monitoring services, such as Meltwater.
  • Experience managing social media accounts for non-profit or academic organizations.
  • Knowledge of the fields of nutrition, obesity, food policy, or public health.


This is a full-time, 12-month, annually renewable position and offers a full range of heath/retirement benefits. The continuation of this position is based on available funding and performance. The work location is One Constitution Plaza, Suite 600, Hartford, CT.  Working remotely some days each week may be an option subject to authorization and University policy.
